About Sue Young

Our minds blend for us the colors we see in the impressionist style.  This happens when we view the thousand hues of a tree's leaves.

"For me the appeals of pastel are its intense and splendid hues, and marrying them in unending varieties."

The vivid and unblended colors in Sue's landscapes draw one into the rural scenes of Northern England, France and the Colorado Rockies.  Her playful interpretations of nature delight with unique color combinations and captured light.

Sue Young, painter, anthropologist and traveler, resides with her husband, Kenneth Mahrer in Arvada, Colorado.  Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she began watercolor painting in youth.  Sue studied fine arts at Indiana University at Bloomington, and pastels under Doug Dawson at Art Students League of Denver.  Landscape subjects are drawn from her travels in Europe, Australia and the Americas.
